3. They enter! The first impression, standing in entryway, is big selling point for whole house.
- House should smell fresh. Use potpourri, candles, spray Fabreze, bake bread, or cook cinnamon in water on the stove. A bowl of vinegar sitting for a few hours before will help eliminate any funny odors some houses have developed, especially older people’s houses.
- Soft music playing is appealing. Instrumental is best, not vocals, and no television blaring. A good radio station is FM 99.1.
- Make certain entryway area is very clean and de-cluttered.
- Hall coat closet should only have two items hanging and some empty hangers. Organize and de-clutter closet shelf, couple of games or hat. Move all that vacuum stuff somewhere else, like the basement or garage. (I know, it is inconvenient, but it is important)
- Eliminate any sign of pets. Put Fido in a kennel or make arrangements for someone to walk him while clients are visiting. Some people are not pet lovers believe it or not.
- A framed mirror and “Welcome Home” sign inside front door gives them the idea this house is for them.
- Lights on, any front window drapes should be open to show clean windows and let natural light in.
Make sure the temperature in your home is comfortable; keep it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. If it’s cold outside and you have a fireplace, a nice fire will make your home seem cozy and inviting.
