7. If they like what they have seen so far, they will look at the rest of the house with interest, but are probably sold, or not
- Rest of the house, clean, clean, clean is most important.
- Sell or put in storage all unnecessary furniture that makes your house feel too small and cluttered. Should be some wall space showing to look roomy.
- Take down most of the pictures off of wall and all the family photos. If it looks like your family belongs there, they won’t think of it as theirs.
- Paint any walls that need it. Again, neutral colors are best: tan, taupe, light gray, and sage green (a grey green, not yellow green).
- Touch up any woodwork that is chipped or damaged.
- Consider painting white any old flat style interior doors, or replacing with new 6 panel doors. New silver knobs would also help update.
- Clean out fireplace with logs ready to light.
- Use Old English Scratch Polish or furniture repair stick to repair any scratches or scrapes on wood railings, floors, etc.
- Remove the Victorian Doilies, the hand painted flowered dishes on the wall, and the pink and blue plastic flower arrangement. The cute country décor you like so well? The pink and blue duck with cute hat? Box them up and put away. A majority don’t like it. Display Modern accessories only.
