Jefferson County Real Estate
For those wanting to get more bang for the buck, consider a home in Jefferson County. The major towns in Jefferson County include Arnold at the Northeast along the Meramec River; Pevely, Herculaneum, Crystal City and Festus about midway down I-55 along the Mississippi River; DeSoto and Hillsboro near the central part of the county; and House Springs, and High Ridge at the Northwest. The minor towns include names like Frumet, Fletcher, Ware, Morse Mill, and Valles Mines to name a few. The landscape in Jefferson County is as diverse as one can imagine. High Ridge gets it’s name honestly enough. At Kimmswick, Barnhart and along the Mississippi River, there are some great views from the bluffs, and there are some great home locations in and around the major towns. Dotted throughout the county there are farms and lake developments, hunting spots and fishing holes. Just outside Cedar Hill on Byrnesville Road is a beautiful sod farm, with a county park right at the edge where skateboarders can have a blast.
If you like float trips, jump on the Big River near Washington State park a few miles South of DeSoto on Highway 21 and float North toward Morse Mill. Boaters may like to waterski along the Meramec. Mushroom hunters have their own special places to go as well. Regardless of what you like, I can help you find it in Jefferson County.
My neck of the woods is in Festus, near the Mississippi River and halfway through the county at Interstate 55 at exit 175. Stop in for a bite to eat at one of the local eateries, or take a drive up Buck Knob to see the stainless steel cross and take in the view of the Festus/Crystal City area. But be careful, you might not want to go back home.
