Save on Your Homeowners Insurance

Today in America, there are homeowner rates increasing even in the most remote areas and communities. This is largely in part of insurance companies reacting to numerous loss ratios in other parts of the country.

If you do not look closely at your renewal notice, the increase may not be noticeable. However, if you discard your renewal letter, you may not even be aware of a large increase in your homeowner’s premium. What some agents fail to tell you is that there are numerous discounts that you may qualify for by adding simple upgrades to your home. Something as simple as deadbolt locks can qualify you for a discount. Owning a new home, updating the electric/plumbing on an older home, or even installing a central alarm can save you a considerable amount of money.

However, the most common way people save is through combining their home and auto insurance. On average, a $2000 premium home can save an average of about 20%. On another note, never over or under insure your home. Make sure that you pay attention to the replacement cost value of your home. If you have a historic home, have a builder give you an estimate on the dwelling. Finally, ask your agent if they offer any cap room above 100% replacement cost or even guaranteed replacement on your home. This will help protect your home in times of a natural disaster when building materials are raised and the demand for builders is high.
