What do you like about being a landlord?

I listen to a lot of podcasts, and read a lot of books about real estate. One of the main real estate podcasts I listen to Is “Get Real REI” with Judson and Lynn Voss.

They were interviewing an investor that focused mainly on large multi-family properties for rentals. He told a great story about when he used to go to real estate investor meetings in his area. Someone asked him why he focuses on Multi family units, and the following is what he said:

I like the idea of a group of people getting together, getting jobs, waking up everyday to go to work. At the end of the month this same group of people pools some of there money, that they have worked for all month, and gives it to me to pay my mortgage.

I also like the idea of that same group of people pooling more of their money together each month to pay for any repairs and maintenance that need to be done on my property.

My favorite part about investing in multi-families is when that group of workers takes part of their paychecks, pool them together and mails it to me each month to pay for my cars, travel, and dining lifestyle.
